Our Competence Network in Semiconductors

As a leading IC design house in Europe, Fraunhofer IIS in the Integrated Circuits and Systems division develops tailored solutions for the ever-evolving demands of industry. Our technology and manufacturer-independent approach enables us to offer our customers optimal solutions. We focus on mixed-signal ASIC design, including high-performance A/D and D/A converters, neuromorphic computing, circuit components for wired and optical communication links, and application-specific integrated RF IPs and ASICs. Moreover, we offer a comprehensive service portfolio covering the entire value chain from design to production

In the field of sensor systems, we develop complete solutions for intelligent integrated sensor systems, such as 3D magnetic field, image, and color sensors, as well as their wireless networking. These sensor systems form the basis for novel information, communication, and measurement systems. Intelligent sensors are key elements of modern, autonomous systems. Our new concepts of direct sensor signal conversion in combination with complex digital signal processing lead to efficient, small, and cost-effective sensor elements.

At Fraunhofer IIS, we have over 30 years of experience creating innovative chip solutions for various applications. Our Integrated Digital Systems division specializes in digital and mixed-signal ASIC and SoC designs, including custom RISC-V processors, to meet the unique needs of our customers.

At the Fraunhofer IIS Chip Design Center, we conduct research into novel methods for system engineering of complex integrated circuits. The Bavarian Chip Design Center (BCDC) management office is also integrated within our department. Our system engineering activities support the design of integrated circuits through requirements engineering, system design, and the investigation of modular and scalable system architectures with a focus on chiplet systems and heterogeneous integrated circuits. The BCDC management office is responsible for managing the BCDC, driving business development for demand-driven innovation management of the BCDC IC design ecosystem, and organizing training and education programs for BCDC IC design talents, including trainee programs for various IC design job profiles and summer schools.
